Leonora is 48 and has been married for 23 years. She has two children. Her younger son spends his mornings helping Leonora on their family farm, then goes to school in the afternoons. Her older son studies agriculture and plans to return home to help her run their family farm when he finishes at university. Leonora is a sucessful dairy cow farmer, selling the milk that her cows produce to Pil, a large dairy company in the Cochabamba area. Leonora was raised on a diary farm over 27 years ago and learned dairy farming working alongside her parents. Leonora sought a $1,000.00 loan to purchase chopped cornhusk to feed her cattle. This investment is very important as Cochabamba has been suffering from a major drought and the prices of livestock feed have skyrocketed. This MicroLoan was made under our agreement with www.kiva.org and has been disbursed through CIDRE, a non-profit/NGO founded in 1981 that supports and contributes to the development of the farming and livestock sector in rural regions of Bolivia. |
