Muhammadjon Mirzoev is an energetic young man who raises calves in a small village in Ganchi district of Sugd region of Tajikistan. Tajikistan has a rich history, dating from their key post along the ancient Silk Road and the end of Alexander the Great's rule. Many great thinkers, philosophers, scientists and poets, including Rudaki, Avicenna, Ferdowsi, Omar Khayyam, Jomi, and Rumi have come from the area. The country is home to communities that still speak the ancient Sogdian language, epic mountain passes, and a civilization that dates back to the 4th millennium BC. Tajikistan is also the poorest of the former Soviet republics. The civil war, which ignited after Tajikistan's independence from the U.S.S.R., further damaged the nation's already weak economy. Only 7% of the land is arable, and while the people of Tajikistan are working to improve its agricultural production and manufacturing sector, nearly two-thirds of the population still live in abject poverty. 4 years ago Muhammadjon took over the business from his father who is a pensioner but Muhammadjon is very experienced in cattle breeding and the farming business since he has observed it and worked with his father from childhood. He works hard to make the life of his family better every day. Muhammadjon has sought this Microloan to purchase seeds, fertilizer and cattle in order to expand his business which will help to increase his income and improve living conditions for himself and his family. This MicroLoan was made under our agreement with www.kiva.org and has been disbursed through IMON International - an organization founded in January of 1999 to promote sustainable economic development and improved quality of life in Tajikistan. IMON International is working to accomplish this by:
IMON International has 8 branch offices throughout Tajikistan and their entrepreneurs work in many parts of the country's economic sector including trade, manufacturing, agriculture, and services. IMON International manages a portfolio of over $29,000,000 benefitting more than 26,000 Salvadorans who now have a better quality of life.
